Background

Bass2bait freshwater fishing adventures specialises in the upper Nepean river between the Penrith Weir and Warragamba Dam. Tours can extend into the Warragamba river depending on the time of year and we are now offering tours of the Sydney International Regatta Centre (Penrith Lakes), which has been stocked with bass for more than 10 years. One of the beauties of our tours is you're only 40mins from downtown Sydney, yet it feels like you're a million miles from anywhere.

Your guide Steve Defina, has been fishing the Nepean for many years, loves his bass fishing and truly cares for the Nepean river system, he knows his bass fishing and is highly skilled in the art of surface lure finesse fishing. He lives only minutes from the river and has spent hundreds, (if not thousands) of hours chasing fish in the mighty Nepean. Bass2bait fishing adventures is about having a great time, fishing and having a laugh and taking in the magnificent scenery that engulfs you.

It is hard to believe that you are only a few kms from Penrith, you are more likely to think you are in the Kakadu, it is so quiet, so pristine. The species that can be targeted in the Nepean are bass, mullet, carp, herring, catfish, eels and even some huge gold fish. Bass2bait promotes catch and release bass fishing, take a pic or video home and put the fish back to get bigger, fatter and get him again next time.

ON THE FLY! We are now offering BASS FLY FISHING trips as well, this is ONLY for experienced fly fishers, we will supply some great Bass fly's but the rest is up to you to bring. We have found that fly fishing is a very personal thing and most prefer their own magic wand. If you want to learn this art, give Steve a call and he can arrange to have you shown the finer points of bass fly fishing.

Duration

The half day tour, which is the most popular, is a minimum of 4 hours, we also do 2 hour, 3 hour and full day charters. One of the beauties with bass2bait is there is no long boat trips to get to the fishing spots, so you spend the time fishing not travelling!

Times and Location

Sunrise adventures start at sunrise (funny that), approx 6 am from the wharf at Tench Reserve, Penrith (click here for map). We will travel for a short time to one of Steves fav spots and start fishing straight away.

Sunset adventure if you prefer, my favourite time to fish, starts about 2 hrs before sunset and continues for a couple after the sun has gone. This time we start with a tour up the majestic Nepean Gorge, find some of those big mullet and hook a few before sunset. When the time is right Steve will take you to his fav bass spot and watch those bass smash the surface lures.

If you prefer we can do some huge carp fishing or chase some herring, do whatever you want. With just 2 passengers and Steve, you can do whatever suits your party, Steve luvs catching fish, prefers bass but has caught 'em all in the Nepean and will show you the best spots and best ways. Not many people know the Nepean as well as Steve, its his business, his passion and will share it with you, and he doesn't keep the best spots to himself, "nothing better than when one of my clients lands that big fish, love the grin it puts on their faces"…have a look in the gallery. Also have a look at this story I found on the web, don't know the guy, but it gives you an idea of what can happen on the Nepean River.

Provided

Steve will supply all your fishing needs, with either the easy to use SHIMANO light spin gear or if your are an expert he has some nice overheads and baitcasters. If you have your favourite rod, bring it along.
He will also supply all your lures (on a 'you lose you replace' basis) and will take you through the exciting surface lure action, there's nothing quite like seeing a good bass smashing your surface lure, let alone the fight you are in for.
